The Mackintosh Choir enters the Glasgow Music Festival

On Tuesday 14th March 2017 at 7.30pm, the Choir will be competing once again in the Glasgow Music Festival in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. This year will perhaps be even more of a challenge for the Choir as it seeks to retain its position of first in its class gained at last year’s event. Come along and hear the choir and some of the other magnificent choirs from around Glasgow as they perform two contrasting pieces attempting to out do their rivals in the Mixed Choirs Class to be judged the best in class. Tickets priced £5 Adult and £3 Child may be purchased at the venue.

Christmas Concert Sunday 11th December @ 7.00pm in St John’s-Renfield Church.

As the clocks go back and autumn turns to winter, it’s time to think about ways to bring light to some of those dark and dreary nights of December. Well here is one way to enjoy a happy and joyful night in the run up to Christmas – come to the Mackintosh Choir Christmas Concert on Sunday 11th December!

Tickets are on sale now for our Christmas Concert on Sunday 11th December  at 7.00pm at St John’s-Renfield Church, 22 Beaconsfield Road, Kelvindale, Glasgow, G12 0NY.

The programme will feature a wide variety of traditional and contemporary carols with many familiar and well know settings but also a few surprising and beautiful new settings. The Carols include works by John Rutter, Our Patron, Handel, Andre Williams, Chris Hutchings, Friorik Walker, J. Pierpont, Joyce Eilers and Howard Goodall with some audience participation in a few favourite well known carols.

Summer Break

After a very busy few weeks with additional rehearsals and two public performances in June, the Choir is now on its summer break for July and August, resuming rehearsals on Wednesday 31st August at 6.30pm in St John’s-Renfield Church.

The two splendid and well received performances were at the Kelvingrove Bandstand on Saturday 18th June as part ‘Voice at the Bandstand’, a West End Festival event and our Summer Concert ‘Sing into Summer’ on Sunday 19th June. Both performances were conducted by Musical Director, Paul Keohone and the entire repertoire was accompanied by Gordon Cree on piano with the choir also performing one of Gordon’s beautiful compositions, ‘A Scottish Blessing’ and his arrangement of ‘Caledonia’.

New pieces learned and performed this session were ‘Five Hebrew Love Songs’ and ‘Seal Lullaby’ composed by Eric Whitacre. In the first of these pieces solo violin was performed with great acclaim by Gongbo Jiang and saxophonist Karen Dufour played the solo sections for ‘Brothers in Arms’ performed by the male members of the choir. The Summer Concert included a solo contribution from choir member Patricia Urquhart who sang ‘Dimming of the Day’.

Following a well earned rest and summer break, the Choir will resume its usual schedule of rehearsals in preparation for our Christmas Concert on Sunday 11th December and our participation in Glasgow Music Festival in March 2017 to defend our first place in this year’s competition.
