Summer Break

After a very busy few weeks with additional rehearsals and two public performances in June, the Choir is now on its summer break for July and August, resuming rehearsals on Wednesday 31st August at 6.30pm in St John’s-Renfield Church.

The two splendid and well received performances were at the Kelvingrove Bandstand on Saturday 18th June as part ‘Voice at the Bandstand’, a West End Festival event and our Summer Concert ‘Sing into Summer’ on Sunday 19th June. Both performances were conducted by Musical Director, Paul Keohone and the entire repertoire was accompanied by Gordon Cree on piano with the choir also performing one of Gordon’s beautiful compositions, ‘A Scottish Blessing’ and his arrangement of ‘Caledonia’.

New pieces learned and performed this session were ‘Five Hebrew Love Songs’ and ‘Seal Lullaby’ composed by Eric Whitacre. In the first of these pieces solo violin was performed with great acclaim by Gongbo Jiang and saxophonist Karen Dufour played the solo sections for ‘Brothers in Arms’ performed by the male members of the choir. The Summer Concert included a solo contribution from choir member Patricia Urquhart who sang ‘Dimming of the Day’.

Following a well earned rest and summer break, the Choir will resume its usual schedule of rehearsals in preparation for our Christmas Concert on Sunday 11th December and our participation in Glasgow Music Festival in March 2017 to defend our first place in this year’s competition.

There are places in the Choir for Male Tenors and Basses and if you would like to join us, please contact the Secretary via the contact link.
